Chinese student powers to win men's 100m at Universiad
IZMIR, Turkey, August 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Hu Kai clocked 10.30 seconds to win the men's 100 meters, while his compatriots contributed two silvers to help China lead the medal table of the athletics with two golds and three silvers at the 23rd World Universiade here on Tuesday.
The young Chinese student, who set his personal best of 10.27 seconds in the domestic meet, sped up quickly from the start line to add the second gold for the Chinese athletics team. He also became the first Chinese man to win the 100m in the Universiade history. Seldom did people see athletes wearing a pair of glasses to run in the track and field. Hu told Xinhua that he has been instructed by doctors he could not wear contacts because of his eyes. "I got used to wear glasses to have my training and run. Since I was 12 years old, I began to wear glasses," said Hu, who currently majors in economics in Qinghua University, one of the top universities in China. "As a Chinese university student, I am proud to winning the gold for my school and for my country, " added Hu. Yepishin Andrey of Russia clocked in 10.43 to snatch the
silver, and Viana Sandro of Brazil took the bronze in 10.49.
