Barroso: to solve bilateral problems in a constructive manner

Meanwhile, trade frictions are increasing between the two major economies.
Shortly after the two sides reached an agreement solving textile frictions,
footwear disputes have emerged.
Barroso noted that trade problems exist because trade exists. "We should look
at it and solve it in a constructive manner, trying to have a good solution in a
spirit of common interests," he said.
He added that the EU is committed to promoting an "important strategic
partnership" with China, which is in the interest of both sides.
He said he hoped the EU and China would expand cooperation in the fields of
energy, technology, civic aviation and space technology, in a bid to respond to
global challenges like climate change, global terrorism, underdevelopment and
some very dangerous epidemics.
