Liu Xiang meets top rivals again, in Rome
Olympic 110 hurdle gold medalist Liu Xiang is to seek revenge on Frenchman Ladji Doucoure at the 30th edition of the Athletissima Grand Prix meeting in Rome. Four-time world champion and 1996 Olympic winner Allen
Johnson, the undisputed No. 1 in his event for most of the last decade, has
faced fierce competition lately from two younger hurdlers - China's Liu Xiang
and European indoor champion Ladji Doucoure of France.
Doucoure beat both Johnson and Liu
in Paris last week with a time of 13.02. "That should not have been a
surprise to anyone," the 34-year-old Johnson said of Doucoure's performance.
"He's been running very fast. There are five or six of us who are running very
fast. So on any day, any one of us could win. However, I feel that I'll be the
one who wins most of the time."
