Chinese herbalist to fast for record 50 days A Chinese doctor declared on Tuesday that he will challenge the world record by fasting for 50 days from September 8 to October 27 and everyone is welcome to monitor. The 51-year-old Chen Jianmin from Luzhou, a city in southwest China's Sichuan Province, runs a private business on traditional Chinese medical treatment. He completed a 49-day fast show on May 7 last year in a 16-square-meter glass box at a mountainous resort near his hometown. He lost about 20 kilograms during the fast, when fed on nothing but water as he declared. The news made a hit in China, while many scientists questioned whether it was ever possible for any human to endure a 49-day fast. But magicians said it could have been extremely hard to transport food into a completely transparent box monitored by authorities. An American magician named David Brian in 2003 conducted a 44-day fasting show in a glass house at the bank of Tames in London, but that was recognized as a magic show. To fight back the doubts, Chen decided to conduct his second public fast which will take place on a stone platform where is a historical tourist site in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province. He would live all alone in a closed glass house for 50 days. The mineral water he lives on and all of the equipment in the house will be collected from public. The advertising company from Beijing which sponsored the show announced they will provide free monitoring and testing chances for any research groups, and reward 100 yuan (about 12 US dollars)for anyone who finds out any tricks in the show.
