FIFA investigate San Siro disturbances
FIFA have launched a probe into the crowd violence which marred Scotland's World Cup qualifier away to Italy on Saturday.
It is understood that two groups of Italian fans, who regard themselves as enemies at club level, fought each other in the stands during the second half of Scotland's 2-0 defeat in the San Siro in Milan.
Baton-wielding riot police moved in to quell the unrest, which occurred under the section containing the 10,000 Scotland fans. World football's governing body has now received reports from Greek referee Kyros Vassaras and FIFA's own delegate, both of which mention the incident. A FIFA spokesman said: 'A disciplinary procedure has been opened. The matter will reviewed by our disciplinary department.' Scottish Football Association chief executive David Taylor has already revealed he does not expect the Tartan Army to be directly involved in the probe. He said he was satisfied that the Scottish fans' behaviour had been exemplary, with not a single Scottish supporter arrested at the match. Taylor understood the violence took place when a group of fans from Verona clashed with rivals who follow Inter Milan.
