World Cup winners Argentina and defending champions China played to a 3-3 draw yesterday in a second-day match at the Champions Trophy women's field hockey tournament.

Agustina Garcia's goal in the 69th minute leveled the score for Argentina after Ma Yibo had given China the lead seven minutes earlier.

Tang Chunling and Fu Baorong scored the other Chinese goals while Luciana Aymar and captain Magdalena Aicega had the other Argentina goals. Both teams won their opening matches on Saturday.

Australia moved to 2-0 and first place with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands, handing the Dutch their second straight loss.

In the final match of the day, Kim Mi-seon's second goal of the game in the final minute gave South Korea a 2-1 win over England, leaving England with an 0-2 record.

A goal from Carmel Bakurski in the opening minute, good stickwork from Australian captain Katrina Powell that led to her goal in the 42nd minute and a strong defence featured in the Australian win over the No 2-ranked Netherlands.

The Dutch had one goal disallowed and missed converting two penalty corners in the first half while both teams struggled to keep possession in the midfield.

Janneke Schopman converted a penalty stroke from directly in front to pull the Netherlands to within a goal in the 49th minute, but that was as close as they came, because of the strong Australian defence.

Dutch coach Marl Lammers said 1Australia is the team to beat.

"I said before the tournament the Australians on paper are the strongest team here because they have improved a lot after the World Cup," Lammers said, referring to the 2002 World Cup in Perth where Australia finished fourth.

Kim opened the scoring for South Korea in the 24th minute before England leveled in the 37th minute on a goal by Lucille Wright. But Kim, after sustained pressure from the South Koreans in the final 10 minutes, scored the winner with just 37 seconds left.

The tournament ends next Sunday with the top two teams from round-robin play meeting for the gold medal. The teams will have a day off today.
