Differences mark parenting styles

Chinese and foreign parents treat their kindergarten-aged children very
differently, according to a teacher in the Pudong District, Shanghai Morning
Post reports.
Chinese parents pay more attention to details, such as what their children
are fed or a school's facilities and require kindergarten instructors to teach
them useful things, including maths, English and computer skills.
Meanwhile, foreign parents are more focused on whether their kids are happy
in the kindergarten and do not push their children to perform as well as, or
better, than others.
The conceptual differences result from different values in the East and the
West. Foreign parents treat children as individuals and teach them how to do
something instead of telling them what to do, which helps children adapt more
easily to society and become more creative grown-ups, according to a local
education expert.
