200 passengers too stubborn to leave ( 2003-09-26 14:29) (China Daily)
The city's No 1 Pearl metro line was paralyzed for 104 minutes Wednesday morning when more than 200 passengers refused to get off the train, which was suffering from some operational glitches, Jiefang Daily reports. One of train 309's doors began malfunctioning at 8:50 am. According to operational procedure, passengers are supposed to exit the train, so that it can be repaired, and wait for another train to take them on to their destination. Repeated announcements instructing passengers about what to do and asking for their understanding and co-operation were not sufficient to clear the whole carriages. More than 200 passengers refused to leave the train, and when it eventually entered the garage, some 20 passengers were holding the train's doors open. Traffic on the line did not resume normal operation until 10:34 am when the Shanghai Public Security Bureau intervened.
