Crossing river made easier

Shanghai will have 16 tunnels and bridges with a total of 82 lanes to carry
vehicular traffic across the Huangpu River by 2020, Shanghai Morning Post
reports.
In addition to the completed Outer-ring Tunnel, Yan'an Donglu Tunnel, Dapu Lu
Tunnel, Nanpu Bridge, Yangpu Bridge, Lupu Bridge, Xupu Bridge and the Xiangyin
Lu, Dalian Lu and Fuxing Donglu tunnels now under construction, the city plans
to build another six tunnels, according to Qian Shaohua, director of the
Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Institute.
Experts have also suggested building a new tunnel flush against the Dapu Lu
Tunnel so as to offer more traffic throughways in time for the World Expo in
2010.
