Candidates open to public scrutiny

The Chinese Academy of Engineering has for the first time opened its list of
new academy member candidates for public comment, reports Xinhua.
After the first round of selection, 170 people will be chosen from 628
initial candidates.
The second-round candidates, to be publicized on the academy's website -
www.cae.cn - will be open to anyone wanting to comment on a candidate's
qualifications.
Fewer than 70 people will be inducted as lifetime academy members, the
country's top honour in the engineering field. The selection process takes place
every two years.
