One of two suspects in court on robbery charges says he was not part of the crime for which he was arrested but a good citizen trying to help.

But he failed to convince the judge, reports the Shenzhen-based Information Times.

Tao was waiting for a bus on December 22 last year when she was suddenly pushed to the ground from back and her bag was wrenched from her.

Security guards pursued three men fleeing from the site and caught Sun Pingfeng and Yang Xiaohua, both natives of Longhui, Hunan Province.

But Yang insisted he was innocent.

He said in the court that he was trying to help catch the robbers, but the security guards mistook him for an accomplice.

And Sun, who admitted to the robbery, denied knowing Yang before.

But their words were contradicted by the testimonies of Tao and a security guard.

The Futian District People's Court has sentenced both Sun and Yang to four years in prison.
