Bribery of victim lands father in jail

A father has ended up in prison for bribing a rape victim into changing her
testimony against his son, reports Information Times.
The son of Hu, who lives in Foshan's Shunde District, was arrested on rape
charges last October. After failing to reach a "private settlement" with the
victim, Hu sought help from Huang, an acquaintance of both families.
Hu gave the victim's family 30,000 yuan (US$3,614) in compensation and
promised another 30,000 after the son was released if the victim would pen a
statement saying she had sex with Hu's son voluntarily and that the report of
rape stemmed from a lovers' quarrel. The victim complied.
Huang received 10,000 yuan (US$1,208) for his role as "mediator". But the
statement failed to convince the court, and police uncovered the bribery scheme.
Both Hu and Huang have been sentenced to six months in
prison.
