Sitting in his office in Changchun, Huang Yushuo reminds one of a typical scientific researcher, generally quiet and reserved. But the 41-year-old's eyes become bright when the topic shifts to his invention - the Z1.

Over a five-year period, Huang led a research team without backgrounds in overseas study or previous experience in integrated circuit design to develop a 32-bit computer central processing unit - or CPU -with independent intellectual property rights.

"We hope to compete with giants in the industry on the same level in the future and win a place in the international market for China and our company," Huang said.
