Delivery of social justice

China Daily | Updated: 2009-09-05 07:39

Popular nicknames such as pin'erdai (which means "children of poor families") and fu'erdai (meaning "children of quite wealthy families") point to the rising disparity between the haves and have-nots. To prevent such disparity from depriving the have-nots of any opportunity for social mobility is of great significance to the upholding of social justice and maintaining of social stability.

As reported by China Youth Daily, almost every recruitment system on the Internet asks applicants for their parents' income. A survey of graduates in seven universities shows that 70 percent of the surveyed have been discriminated against because of their family backgrounds. Some employers even showed more than enough concern for what the applicants' parents do.

Little wonder that the saying of having a good father is better than scoring straight A's has gained great popularity. Employers, who have an eye for candidates with wealthy or powerful backgrounds, covet the social resources such as connections from these candidates' parents.
