The People's Bank of China has scheduled the release of a set of gold and silver commemorative coins for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Tibet autonomous region on July 16, 2015, Finance.ce.cn reported.
The set includes two kinds of commemorative coins – one gold coin and one silver coin – that are legal tender in the People's Republic of China.
About the design of the commemorative coins:
1. The front:
Both the gold and silver coins feature the national emblem of the People's Republic of China, with the Chinese characters "People's Republic of China" and the year of issue.
2. The back:
The reverse design of the 7.776g (1/4 oz) gold commemorative coins features a Tibetan Opera performer, with traditional auspicious decorations as the background incorporated into the design. The words "50th Anniversary of the establishment of Tibet autonomous region" are written in both Tibetan and Chinese, along with the denomination.
The reverse design of the 31.104g (1 oz) silver commemorative coins features a design of Tibetan-style residential building, the Qinghai-Tibet railway, and snow mountains. The words "50th Anniversary of the establishment of the Tibet autonomous region" are written in both Tibetan and Chinese, along with the denomination.
About the specifications and distribution of the commemorative coins:
1. The gold commemorative coins:
The 7.776g (1/4 oz) round, refined gold coins contain 7.776g of gold, are 22mm in diameter, come in denominations of 100 yuan ($16.1), are 99.9 percent pure, and will have a total circulation of 15,000 pieces.
2. The silver commemorative coins:
The 31.104g (1 oz) round, refined coins contain 31.104g of silver, are 40mm in diameter, come in denominations of 10 yuan ($1.6), are 99.9 percent pure, and will have a total circulation of 25,000 pieces.
The Shanghai Mint Co., Ltd and Shenzhen National Coinage Casting Ltd are making the set of gold and silver commemorative coins. The China Gold Coin Corporation will distribute the coins.
