Sally Begbie and her husband Malcolm arrived from their native Australia in 1986, planning to do charity work. They now run Crossroads Foundation, which sources everything from clothes and furniture to medical equipment and distributes it to the needy in Hong Kong and around the world.
"WE HADN'T PLANNED TO START OUR OWN CHARITY, BUT WHEN AN EARTHQUAKE STRUCK IN 1995 A CHARITY GOT IN TOUCH. I OFFERED TO WRITE A BROCHURE AND MY HUSBAND OFFERED TO DO THEIR BUDGET. BUT THEY SAID, 'CAN YOU PUT TOGETHER A SHIPMENT OF AID?' SO WE THOUGHT JUST THIS ONCE－THEN ANOTHER, AND ANOTHER. AND HERE WE ARE TODAY."
