China is not yet prepared to introduce green cards for overseas Chinese but it is aware of the need to make it easier for them to visit, says the director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.
"So far, we haven't been considering giving green cards to overseas Chinese," Qiu Yuanping said on Sunday. "But we understand their interest in this issue because it would make their departure and entry easier and also provide convenience when visiting China. We are paying close attention to their concerns."
Qiu said China has already drawn up several favorable policies for overseas Chinese within the entry and exit administration law, which was launched in 2013.
She made the comments during the ongoing two sessions.
She also pointed out that China has made efforts recently to improve the visa process and duration of visas in a bid to attract more high-level talent from overseas.
As part of the plan to nurture world-class tech innovation centers in Shanghai and Beijing, the police department has already brought in more than 30 regulations since July 2015 aimed at making it more convenient for foreign talents to travel to China and become permanent residents.
"By looking at those new regulations, overseas Chinese can see that our government has been listening to their requests and is acting on their concern and we will continue to research new policies and provide convenience for those working, studying and staying in China," Qiu said.
