A survey by the China Daily website revealed that environmental protection is the top concern for participants from home and abroad. Some 620 respondents from more than 33 countries and regions joined the online study ahead of China's largest annual political and legislative events, the "two sessions" which begin on Thursday.

According to the survey titled "Two sessions: Issues you care about most", 15 percent of respondents had "Chinese environmental protection" as the top priority followed by "health care reform" (12 percent), education equity (11 percent), anti-corruption (10 percent) and housing security (nine percent).

Many foreign netizens also shared suggestions over issues concerning them. Ratfink, from Australia, left messages to suggest the Chinese government deal with air pollution and advises taking emergency measures to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, which would help reduce exhaust emissions that contribute to the extremely poor air quality.

As more expatriates work and live in China, the Chinese green card issue is also a hot topic among China Daily's international readers. Mbursian, from the United States, who has been living in Handan city of North China's Hebei province for nearly 10 years shared his 4-month application process for the card and expressed the hope that the government axes the procedure in future.

A netizen named Futsanglung from the UK, who now lives in Shanghai, also showed his expectations regarding the Chinese green card system. "At the moment the rules are still very restrictive and the exact requirements still vague, it is a step in the right direction but still has a long way to go," he writes.
