Selected students also made a short video story, which is part of a British Council Global initiative to be released on November 20 this year to celebrate Universal Children's Day. The video will be fused with similar recordings made by children from all over the world.

Parents, grandparents and siblings were invited to enjoy a variety of performances most notably from the students themselves.

UK Company 'Whitehorse Theatre' also performed an English show for the kids and helped them learn basic English vocabulary such as colors and foods.

Whitehorse is an educational acting group that tours Asia delivering shows and promoting creativity as they go, which perfectly matches the hot topic of 'creativity in the classroom' in China.

The Kids Read project will reach over 1,400 students and 40 teachers of six underprivileged primary schools in the capital. The six schools are a mix of rural and urban schools, some of which contain a high percentage of migrant or minority group students covering districts including Chaoyang, Changping, Daxing, Fangshan, Huairou and Pinggu.

Each of the six schools will be presented with a mini library of about 200 books. The books were chosen based on their quality, color, fun content and ability to engage kids. All of the books are famous amongst children in the UK.
