China's major tourist attractions received 3.6 million visitors on Oct 6, up 11 percent year-on-year, based on data from 124 tourist sites across the country collected by the China National Tourism Administration.

Ticket receipts at these attractions stood at 172.8 million yuan ($28.2 million) on Oct 6, up 4.7 percent from the same period last year.

In the first six days of the holiday, 29.3 million people visited tourist sites monitored by the CNTA, spending 1.5 billion yuan on tickets.

Beijing's 180 tourist attractions received 1.8 million visitors on Monday, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent.

In Beijing, 120,000 people visited Tian'anmen Square and 70,000 visited the Forbidden City on Oct 1.

The China Tourism Academy predicted that about 480 million trips will be made during this year's National Day holiday and tourism revenue may jump by 20 percent from a year ago to 27 million yuan.

However, the number of visitors in some tourists places is expected to decrease because last year's overcrowding scared away potential tourists.

Jiu Zhaigou, a nature reserve in the north of Sichuan province, is likely to see a reduction of ticket proceeds of about 6 million yuan during the holiday, according to the park's management office.

During the same period last year, 4,000 tourists were trapped in gridlock in the scenic spot and were evacuated after 7 pm. The park refunded the price of tickets for tourists unable to finish their tour.
