Serviced office giant Regus has expanded into the Northwest to help promote the development of the Silk Road economic belt.

On Tuesday the company opened two new centers in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province and the point where the 2,000-year-old Silk Road began.

Regus already has 90 such facilities in 25 cities in the center of the country.

Last September President Xi Jinping put forward the strategic concept of an economic belt linking the emerging Asian markets with the developed European nations.

Experts say the initiative would be the longest corridor of its type and has considerable potential to generate economic prosperity.

Regus said it chose Xi’an for its first move into the Northwest because of the city's natural advantages.

"Regus' flexible working patterns and highly cost-effective prices will enable enterprises that are ready to join the development in West China to save office costs and quickly open up the market," said a spokesman.

Regus, which was established in 1989, is based in Luxembourg and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
