A newborn baby suffered burns during a regular blood test due to a doctor's carelessness, Orient Today reported on Monday.

Wang Dehui took his 19-day-old daughter for a regular blood test on Nov 19 at the Liuzhuang township health center in Henan province. The father handed the baby over to a doctor for the test and waited on the first floor. The doctor returned the baby to him in about 20 minutes, Wang told the newspaper.

After he arrived home, the father discovered that the girl's left leg was red and had a few blisters. He immediately returned to the health center.

Feng Juntao, an official with the center, said on Friday that the doctor used the heater to warm the room, which caused the burns. Feng blamed the doctor for carelessness.

He also said the heat caused first- or second-degree burns. The hospital will negotiate compensation with the family based on the injuries.
