MOSCOW -- Russia is going to focus on closer practical cooperation among BRICS countries during the upcoming summit in New Delhi, presidential aide Arkady Dvorkovich told Xinhua on Friday.

Dvorkovich said the trade and investment cooperation within BRICS has been lagged behind the level of their political interactions.

"Changing this situation will be a priority for Russia within BRICS," he added.

BRICS groups major emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

According to the official, Russia's trade with other BRICS countries except China has been less than 10 billion U.S. dollars each.

So, Moscow would particularly focus on cooperation in innovations with other countries, he said.

"It is necessary to conduct closer cooperation between the scientific and research centers of all BRICS countries to jointly develop technological platforms. For that purpose, we bring to the summit 80 Russian entrepreneurs," Dvorkovich said, citing cooperation between Russia and India in pharmaceutical industry as an example of such a successful interaction.

The BRICS summit will be held from March 28 to March 29 under the theme "BRICS Partnership for Global Stability, Security and Prosperity."
