Police in East China have tracked down the truck responsible for an accident in which part of a break hub smashed the windshield of a bus and killed driver Wu Bin on a highway last month.

In a statement, traffic police from Wuxi in Jiangsu province said on Thursday the truck was found early on Wednesday in Yichun, East China's Jiangxi province, with the assistance of the local police.

The truck had been fitted with a new brake hub on June 1 after a 3.5-kg metal fragment, thought to have come from the truck, critically hurt 48-year-old Wu, who still managed to bring the speeding bus to a halt and made sure all the 24 passengers escaped unharmed.

Wu, who later died in hospital on June 1, was hailed as a national hero and granted a number of awards.

"After several days and nights of effort by traffic police, most of the other suspect vehicles had been ruled out," police said.

Earlier the police said they had tracked down nine trucks possibly linked to the accidents after screening more than 3,000 vehicles.

After that, Wuxi police dispatched several investigation teams and gradually narrowed down the suspect vehicles, police said. Wuxi police officers have personally checked out these vehicles or entrusted local police forces to do so.
