Wen stresses co-op between Chinese, British firms

BIRMINGHAM, Britain - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday called on Chinese and British companies to strengthen cooperation to score bigger achievements.

Wen made the appeal when touring MG Motor, a subsidiary of China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, which is the first Chinese carmaker to make mass production and sales in Europe and America.

Established in 2005, MG Motor now has 400 British employees.

The Chinese premier visited the technology center of the company and talked with the employees. He also attended a launch ceremony for the MG6 model, the company's new sports sedan.

Wen said the MG6 created a new production mode that combines China's capital, labor and market with Britain's technology and management. It is a case of successful cooperation between the two countries, he said.

Employees of MG Motor expressed their willingness to make new contributions to China-Britain cooperation and economic development of the two countries.

Wen arrived in Birmingham on Saturday on a three-day visit to Britain.
