China, Ukraine to upgrade cooperative relations

Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed the statement after talks at the Great Hall of the People.
Comprehensively expanding bilateral cooperation in various areas accords with the fundamental interests of the two nations and the two peoples, the statement says.
The two nations agreed to support each other in issues concerning sovereignty and territorial integrity, the document says.
China applauded Ukraine's unilateral renunciation of nuclear weapons.
China and Ukraine will consult on how to reinforce non-nuclear security.
The two sides also decided to establish a cooperation committee at the vice-premier level.
The two sides also decided to deepen bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, energy, science, technology and culture.
The two nations agreed that international and regional disputes should be solved in a peaceful way.
They also agreed to work together to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
According to the statement, the two sides have also reached broad agreement on the issue of the reform of the United Nations.
At the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao, Yanukovych arrived here Thursday to begin a four-day state visit.
