Network integration to cover cities in 3-5 yrs

The much-anticipated tri-networks integration will cover China's urban areas in three years, five years at most, the Securities Daily reported Monday, citing an unnamed official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The State Council, China's cabinet, approved a general plan to push forward the integration program in mid-January.
Li Yizhong, minister of industry and information technology, said in March that a pilot plan for the integration would be set up in May and be carried out in June. The pilot integration of telecommunications and cable TV networks would be carried out during 2010 to 2012, and the tri-networks integration is expected to start full commencement during 2013 to 2015.
