Search launched for 12 fishermen missing off E China coast

XIAMEN: Twelve fishermen are missing off China's east coast after their fishing boat capsized in an collision with a Panama-registered ship early Wednesday.

The Xiamen maritime safety administration said in a statement that it received a report of a collision involving a local fishing boat and 36,592-tonne cargo ship "Curitiba" near Dongshan County, Fujian Province, at about 3:30 am.

The maritime authorities in Xiamen and neighboring Shantou had sent rescue ships and helicopters to search the area.
