Tiananmen area gets a post office

Beijing's first stationary post office opened in the Tiananmen area in the heart of the city on July 8, a local newspaper reported.

Renowned director Zhang Yimou, who will orchestrate the country's National Day fireworks display on October 1, has been named the Tiananmen Post Office's first honorary post master.

The new post office is located on the east side of Tiananmen Square and stands in place of what used to be a licensed Olympic products store.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Tiananmen Post Office will use the zip code 100060.

Postcards and stamps featuring the 60th year of the country are available at the post office.
