SHIJIAZHUANG -- China ended an anti-terrorism exercise Wednesday that was aimed at improving its police forces' ability to deal with possible terrorist attacks and other emergencies during the National Day celebrations in October, an officer with the exercise's command headquarters said.
Firefighting tanks and robots were also used in the exercise. A commando member takes part in an anti-terror drill in Zhuozhou, north China's Hebei Province, on June 17, 2009. [Xinhua] The exercise, called "Great Wall-6", began on June 9. It aimed to ensure the security of celebrations to be held in Beijing around Oct. 1, the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. Drills were also conducted in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Shanxi Province. The officer said the drills had tested the country's anti-terrorism abilities and laid a solid foundation for effectively dealing with all kinds of terrorist attacks. |
