Olympic anthem girl joins in TV series

'An Extraordinary Beauty in the North', the 35-episode TV series by renowned Chinese director Wang Wenjie is expected to wrap up production by the end of November.

'An Extraordinary Beauty in the North' ('Bei Fang You Jia Ren' in Chinese) depicts the legend of a girl born into a noble family who fights through a tumultuous time in the Republic of China period (1911-49) after she looses connection with her family and eventually becomes a magnificent opera star.

Some highlights of the series are the introspective storyline, various characters, strong cast including veteran mainland actors Chen Xiaoyi, Kou Zhenhai and Li Yixiao, as well as a large number of opera scenes.

Shandong Qinshu, a kind of regional opera orignated from eastern Shandong province, which the protagonist Ji Ping first learned before she found her strong interest in Peking opera, was also a big attraction in the play.

The crew just finished the majority of shooting in city Wuxi in east China's Jiangsu Province, one of the film bases and transferred to Shanghai to continue filming.

Reportedly, the production team had built the shooting site in Wuxi with all authentic materials shipped from antique markets in Beijing, to give an authentic appearance of the Min Guo period.

Lin Miaoke, the girl who appeared to sing the anthem "Hymn to the Motherland" at the Olympic opening ceremony on August 8th, 2008 plays the role of young Ji Ping in the series.
