BEIJING -- China urged on Tuesday all parties involved in the Korean Peninsula to move to an early resumption of the stranded six-party talks.

"An early resumption of the talks is in the interest of each of the six parties and fulfills the hope of the international community," said Jiang Yu, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.

The six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue have remained stalled since the last round of meetings held in Beijing last November.

The last round of talks ended with a chairman's statement, in which the parties agreed to resume talks as soon as possible.

Tensions rose on the Korean Peninsula and the situation became more complicated after the DPRK conducted an underground nuclear test on October 9, triggering protests from the international community.

The resumption of the six-party talks, which include China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan, will help ease tensions on the Peninsula, Jiang said.

At the invitation of China, the heads of delegations to the talks from China, the DPRK and the United States had an informal meeting in Beijing on October 31.

China has spared no efforts at maintaining peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and northeast Asia through the six-party talks mechanism, Jiang said.
