Panda put off by birthday fanfare

Candles, cake and birthday songs were prepared by visitors on Sunday at a zoo in Wuhan, of Hubei Province, to celebrate the panda Qingqing's 22nd birthday.

Never having seen so many visitors before, Qingqing was a little frightened and paced to and fro anxiously, before finally lying down and trying to go to sleep.

Qingqing, who has given 13 babies so far, was rented by Wuhan Zoo last September from Chengdu of Sichuan Province. An insurance company even gave Qingqing a 500,000-yuan (US$62,940) insurance policy.
