New technology industrialized for reducing haze

A new technology developed by scientists at Xi'an Jiaotong University, one of China's top universities in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, was industrialized for reducing haze.

Called hydrogen/power cogeneration technology, it is based on coal gasification in supercritical water. The technology with the characteristics of high energy efficiency, low pollution and low emissions was developed by Professor Guo Liejin and his team after more than 20 years of research.

On Sunday, the technology was successfully transferred for 150 million yuan ($21.6 million) to a super-clean energy technology company for industrialization to effectively reduce increasingly severe haze.

According to Guo, chief of the technology research and development team, the newly-developed technology could make yield zero pollutant emission. In the heavy chemical industry, hydrogen production and coal to generate electricity are considered to be among the main sources of haze.

Ai Yilun, general manager of China Nuclear Investment Co Ltd, which bought the technology, said that test analysis showed that the largest haze pollutants, such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides, were caused by coal combustion, and the technology could greatly reduce haze by letting the coal be used efficiently and cleanly.

According to the general manager, the technology is planned to complete industrialization within three years and the products made with the technology are expected to be released into the market in 2019.
