CHICAGO -- US automakers reported mixed sales in February, with Chrysler Group LLC registering gains and General Motors Co (GM) and Ford Motor Co posting losses, local media reported.

Chrysler sold 154,866 vehicles in February, its best February sales since 2007 and up 11.4 percent year on year, thanks to Jeep brand sales, which went up 47.4 percent, the Detroit News said. The Auburn Hills-based automaker also reported increases in sales of other brands such as Chrysler, Ram Truck and Fiat.

Dearborn-based Ford sold 183,947 vehicles in February, down 6.1 percent year on year. While the automaker's car sales went down 13. 6 percent year-over-year in February, F-Series trucks sales rose 2. 6 percent to 55,882, the best February sales for F-Series trucks in eight years.

GM's February sales stood at 222,104 vehicles, down one percent year on year. Buick brand sales increased 18.8 percent, while Cadillac and Chevrolet brand sales each fell 2.9 percent year-over- year and GMC sales went down 0.6 percent.

As for other automakers, Nissan Motor Co Ltd sold 115,360 vehicles in United States in February, up 15.8 percent year on year; Volkswagen of America Inc sold 27,112 vehicles, down 13.8 percent; Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc sold 159,284 vehicles, down 4.3 percent; Hyundai Motor America sold 49,003 vehicles, down 6.3 percent; American Honda Motor Co Inc also reported a sales decline of 7 percent in February.
