TOKYO - Prosecutors have indicted the captain of a Chinese fishing boat for illegally operating in Japanese waters, a local official said Friday.

The Nagasaki District Public Prosecutors Office has finalized its case against Zhong Jinyin, 39, following his December 20 arrest near islands off southwest Japan, according to the official.

The prosecutors have not indicated whether or not the skipper has admitted to the charge.

The arrest was the second such case in the area in less than two months. According to local media, Japanese officers found more than 10 kilograms of corals as well as some fishing equipment on the boat.

Japanese authorities last week arrested another Chinese fishing boat captain, who was later released after paying a fine of 300,000 yen (about $3,900), local media reported.

Tokyo and Beijing agreed to set up a high-level meeting on maritime affairs in an effort to reduce tensions during Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's visit to China this week.
