Macao's visitor per-capita spending up 7% in Q1

MACAO-- Macao saw the per-capita spending of visitors (excluding gaming expenses) reach 1,516 patacas ($189.5) in the first quarter of 2011, up by seven percent year-on-year, with per-capita spending of Chinese mainland visitors topping at 1,928 patacas, according to the figures released on Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Analyzed by place of residence, per-capita spending of visitors from Japan, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, respectively amounted to 1,366 patacas, 1,166 patacas, 873 patacas and 856 patacas, the figures indicated.

Meanwhile, per-capita spending of tourists (overnight visitors) increased by 14 percent year-on-year to 2,623 patacas, whereas that of same-day visitors decreased by 1 percent to 600 patacas.

In the first quarter of 2011, per-capita non-shopping spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors increased by 10 percent year-on-year to 706 patacas, of which expenses on Accommodation and Food and beverage accounted for 45 percent and 36 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, per-capita shopping spending grew by 4 percent to 739 patacas in the period, with expenses mainly on local food products (27 percent), Jewellery/Watches (19 percent) and Clothing (19 percent).
