State Grid invests 100b yuan in new projects

State Grid Corp of China said today that it will invest 100 billion yuan ($14.62 billion)?to build ultra-high-voltage power transmission lines in the next three to four years.
The company said today that China's first ultra-high-voltage power transmission line between Shanxi and?Hubei has begun operation.
Costing 5.9 billion yuan, the 640-km 1000-kV line is currently the power transmission line with the largest capacity in the world.
Construction of the company's other two ultra-high-voltage projects costing a total of 40 billion yuan has begun, said Shu Yinbiao, executive vice president of the company.
One of the lines will link Sichuan and Shanghai and the other between Sichuan and southern Jiangsu. Ultra-high-voltage power lines can transmit power in longer distance and are more energy efficient than conventional cables.
