China waivers Merchants Bank of US$117m tax

The Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation have approved more deductions in China Merchants Bank Co Ltd's corporate income tax for last year, the bank said.

China Merchants Bank told the Shanghai Stock Exchange that this meant its corporate income tax for last year would be reduced by about 905 million yuan (US$117 million).

The bank said the earnings forecast it had made in January had not taken into account the recently approved tax deductions. It said in January that it expected its net profit to have grown by 50 percent last year.

The bank is scheduled to release its financial results for last year next Tuesday and its results for the first quarter of this year on April 27.
