Clustered development of Qingdao auto industry

Qingte Group Co Ltd, a private enterprise based in Qingdao, Shandong Province, aims to become a world-class supplier of special-purpose vehicles as well as axles and other parts and components for commercial vehicles, according to company chairman and president Ji Aishi.
To realize the goal, Qingte Group introduced a series of advanced production facilities from Germany, and plans to set up two research institutes - one on axles and the other on special vehicles.
The ambition of Qingte Group is just an example of the clustered development of the Qingdao auto industry. An official with the Qingdao Development and Reform Commission said that the annual industrial value from the clustered development of the city's auto industry is expected to reach 15 billion yuan (US$1.89 billion) this year, 20 billion yuan by 2007, and 40 billion yuan by 2010.
There are more than 100 manufacturers of complete vehicles, refitted vehicles, auto parts and components, and related sectors. Among them, 64 are enterprises with an annual industrial value exceeding five million yuan.
