Lenovo is one of the world's largest makers of personal computers, dedicated to developing, manufacturing and marketing desktops and notebook personal computers, workstations, servers, storage drives, IT management software, and related services.
Liu Chuanzhi is chairman of the board of Lenovo Group Ltd. Liu returned to the position of chairman in 2009 after previously holding that role from the company's founding in 1984 until Lenovo's merger with the IBM Personal Computing Division in 2005. Under Liu's leadership, Lenovo – originally known as Legend – rose from a small start-up to become the leading PC company in China and then a global company.
Lenovo Group, China's biggest computer maker, announced on Friday that it has set up a 100 million yuan ($150 million) investment fund to support Chinese developers creating mobile Internet applications and services, as part of its efforts to expand its online application store to compete with rivals such as Apple Inc.
Earlier this year, Lenovo launched an Android-based smartphone and revealed a new tablet computer with a detachable screen. Last month, the Chinese computer vendor also set up a new firm to develop a controller-free game console called eBox.
