The increasingly sophisticated nature of some international organized security threats has also posted a higher requirement to Nuctech's products, Wang said, and the company has put lots of efforts in its research center to improve and update its security inspection system and products.

Currently, Nuctech has developed more than 160 security inspection products, from X-ray imaging to radiation detection.

"It is an ongoing process, and we will never stop making innovation and advancement," Wang said.

Meanwhile, the Belt and Road Initiative has boosted strong demand for security inspections for Nuctech, especially in those underdeveloped areas such as Kazakhstan, Serbia and Republic of Montenegro, he said.

"Since the move will drive economic growth in these regions by helping them with infrastructure construction, the demand for inspection equipment overseeing security in airports, railway stations and ports will also increase," he said.

The initiative refers to President Xi Jinping's proposal to build and improve infrastructure connectivity along the Silk Road Economic Belt on the Eurasian continents and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

To make further penetration, the company has implemented a localization strategy, which gives it a competitive edge in dealing with problems of different languages and misunderstanding regulations, according to Wang.

"We hired locally, we outsourced locally and we produced locally. For example, in our factory in Poland, 80 percent of our purchase is from Europe," he said.

The inspectors made in the Nuctech Poland factory are widely used in customs, border areas and ports of European countries to detect potentially hazardous materials such as drugs, bombs and smuggled goods.

"In overseas markets, we are focusing on helping customs departments check containers to combat smuggling and intercept dangerous goods, such as radioactive materials and weapons," he said.

"It only takes two minutes to check out a few hundreds of containers, which has helped facilitate customs clearance and save logistics cost," he said.

At the same time, Nuctech has also offered custom-made products in overseas markets, providing 24x7 after-sales services, which it sees as a competitive edge over other foreign rivals.

The company has sent about 300-400 Chinese technicians to develop its overseas branches in markets including Brazil and Poland.

"You have to know the local market and play by their rules so that you can compete with foreign counterparts," he said.
