China ordered three nuclear power stations to improve safety management procedures in case of severe accidents, according to a report published on June 20 on the National Energy Administration website.

According to the Nuclear Safety Check Report, the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, one of China's oldest nuclear power stations, lacks contingency plans for severe accidents, while the Lin Ao and Tianwan nuclear plants are only partially prepared for managing severe accidents. All the plants are located in East China's coastal region.

The report identified tsunamis as one of the important factors that could affect nuclear plants sites, especially in Guangdong province where the Daya Bay nuclear plant is located.

China conducted a nine-month long nuclear safety check on all its nuclear plants, both in operation and under construction, after Japan's nuclear crisis last year. The conclusions were presented in the report that has just been published.
