BEIJING - Members of China's top political advisory body met in Beijing on Monday to advise on the country's economic and scientific development.

Political advisors are expected to give useful advice on how to maintain steady economic growth, said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), who presided over the meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee.

Their proposals are needed by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the government, he said.

State Councilor Liu Yandong briefed the advisors on the country's scientific and technological development at the meeting.

Scientific innovation is greatly needed by the country for reforming its development pattern, Liu said.

China's scientific development strategy focuses on fostering genuine research capacity and drive for economic growth, according to the state councilor.

China will increase investment in developing high-tech sectors, technologies that benefit people's daily life and basic research, she said, adding that the country would like to introduce more resources, experts and professionals from aboard.
