BEIJING -- Beijing Capital International Airport is expected to handle a record 2.35 million passengers during the upcoming National Day holiday, or "Golden Week," which falls on Oct 1, an official at the airport said on Sept 29.

The official said the airport will handle on average 235,000 passengers per day during the holiday, a rise of 7.15 percent from the same period last year.

Between Sept 28 and Oct 8, the airport will deal with 14,904 flights, an average of 1,490 flights per day, an increase of 4.39 percent compared with the same period of 2010, he noted.

On Sept 30, the airport is expected to handle 1,557 flights and 260,000 passengers -- the busiest day of the period, he said, while it will transport 250,000 on Oct 6.

According to the official, the airport has initiated ?emergency response measures to ensure the safe, smooth and orderly transport of passengers.

All the airport's security check gates will be put into service during the rush hour of the holiday season to shorten waiting periods, he said.

The airport promises to offer the latest weather and flight information to cope with possible delays and cancellation of flights because of bad weather.

Airport stores will extend business hours, the number of airport shuttle buses will be increased, and the management of taxis will be strengthened to ensure the timely departure of all passengers, he said.
