Officials punished for violating disciplines

China reported 135 officials who violated the Party disciplines in the country's economic stimulus projects by August 15, said the Party discipline watchdog Wednesday in Beijing.

Among them, six broke the laws and were handed over to the prosecutors, said a statement issued by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

The others received administrative or discipline punishment, it said.

As one of the most serious cases the statement listed, Lan Shaowei, deputy head of Hanyuan county in southwestern Sichuan province, was found taking 585,000 yuan ($85,700) from bidders of a reservoir project. He was expelled from the CPC and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The CCDI expected officials to learn the lessons from these cases and well implement the central government's economic stimulus policy, the statement said.

In the statement, the CCDI pledged to closely supervise the projects involving huge government investment.

"We will seriously punish those who do not effectively implement the central government's policy and orders and those who break disciplines," it said.

Last year, China announced economic stimulus measures with a government investment of 4 trillion yuan.
