Cisco Systems to expand WLAN business in China

Q: As a leading player in the WLAN sector, what's your enterprise strategy? With a strong presence in China, what's your biggest difficulty in expanding the WLAN business there?

A: Cisco's enterprise WLAN strategy is to offer the industry's most robust and scalable solutions to the market, and provide wireless solutions that meet our customer's needs. As businesses leverage the capabilities of their wireless networks, Cisco will continue to innovate and provide new mobility services, such as enhanced security, voice over WLAN, location and guest access solutions to further help enterprise organizations be more efficient, effective and productive.

One of the challenges that we will face is helping businesses understand the meta-benefits of wireless solutions, and helping them see that a Unified Wireless Network is much more than providing mobile access to data. The market is at an inflection point where new mobility-driven solutions are coming to fruition, and the challenge will be helping businesses meet the needs of their mobile employees, business partners and constituents.

Q: With both business in and outside China, does your company take a different approach to the Chinese market? Why?

A: Cisco works with the Chinese market as it does with other international markets. We team with local partners who know the needs, desires and goals of businesses in those markets. That way, we can customize solutions to be tailor made for their customers and markets. Because this model of working with local providers works so well, Cisco will continue to model this way as it works with China.

Q: Would you please tell us your company's WLAN achievements and future plans in China's WLAN market?

A: Cisco has continued to make significant developments in the WLAN market. This includes our launch of our outdoor wireless "mesh" solution, which today is being deployed throughout Silicon Valley, parts of Europe, and Singapore. We expect that Cisco's Wi-Fi mesh solutions will also enable regions in China to enjoy the benefits of city-wide wireless access and mobility services.
