A talent training program organized by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission was launched on Saturday at Capital University of Economics and Business.

The program involves collaboration between five prestigious universities: CUEB, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Communication University of China, Central University of Finance and Economics and China Foreign Affairs University.

The first cohort of participants of up to 80 students come from 24 pilot universities across the city.

Li Yi, director of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, emphasized the city's commitment to fostering and establishing international organizations and nurturing talent.

"It's of great importance to develop young professionals who understand the operational logic of international organizations and possess global perspectives, professional skills and cross-cultural communication abilities," he said. "This is a crucial task for Beijing's higher education in serving national strategic interests in the new era."

Liu Ying, Party secretary of CUEB, noted: "This year marks both the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and the 70th anniversary of our university. We are fully committed to enhancing international education, planning the development of the Hongmiao International Campus and exploring a triad model of talent development for international organizations, international students and Sino-foreign cooperative education."

The university's goal is to transform its Hongmiao Campus in Chaoyang district into a window for international education in the capital, and to become a hub for international finance, and a digital finance center in the central business district.

As the leading institution in the initiative, the university is responsible for the secretariat. "We aim to share quality resources and establish a sustainable talent development mechanism, contributing to national strategic goals and the development of Beijing," Liu said.

Sophie Muller, a representative of the UN's refugee agency in China, added: "These exchanges offer meaningful opportunities to deepen mutual understanding, share perspectives and explore practical areas of cooperation."

The program underscores Beijing's strategic focus on international engagement and talent cultivation to position the city as a key player in global governance and collaboration.
