Former Moutai chairman indicted on bribery charges
Ding Xiongjun, former chairman of Kweichow Moutai Group and formerly head of the Guizhou Provincial Market Regulatory Administration, has been indicted on charges of bribery and money laundering, China's Supreme People's Procuratorate announced on Friday.
The case was investigated by the supervisory commission in Guizhou before being transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution.
The People's Procuratorate of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture in Guizhou has filed the prosecution against Ding with the local intermediate people's court.
During the review and prosecution process, the prosecutors informed Ding of his legal rights, interrogated him and listened to the opinions of his lawyers.
According to the indictment, Ding took advantage of his positions and influence, including as vice-mayor of Qingzhen, secretary-general of the Guiyang municipal government, vice-mayor of Bijie, director of the Guizhou Provincial Energy Bureau, and Communist Party chief and chairman of the Kweichow Moutai State-owned liquor company, to seek benefits for others. In return, he accepted an extremely large amount of money and valuables.
The prosecutors also accused him of concealing and disguising the source and nature of part of the bribes he received, adding Ding should be held criminally liable for bribery and money laundering.
Public records show that Ding, 52, a native of Hubei province, joined the Communist Party of China in 1994 and began his career in 1995 as a teacher at Wuhan University. He entered government service in Guiyang, Guizhou, in 2001.
He became chairman of Kweichow Moutai Group in August 2021 and held the post until April 2024, when he served as director of the Guizhou Provincial Market Regulatory Administration. He came under investigation in January 2025.
