China reaffirmed on Wednesday that it will firmly support Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, and urged the United States to immediately end its blockade, sanctions and any form of coercion against Cuba.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular news briefing while dismissing reports linking China with intelligence activities near US territory.

Lin stressed that fabricating excuses and making false accusations cannot justify the US' brutal blockade and illegal sanctions against Cuba, nor can it cover up the fact that the US has seriously infringed upon Cuba's right to survival and development and violated the basic norms of international relations.
